Threading holes

A pantograph is a mechanical device that enables precise and repeatable reproduction of shapes, including complex operations such as threading.

Pantograph threading process

  • Material and hole preparation: Before threading begins, the material in which the thread is to be made must be properly prepared. The holes are drilled to the appropriate diameter, smaller than the thread diameter, to provide space for its production.
  • Pantograph setting: The pantograph requires precise tool setting and guidance. The threading tool (usually a tap or die) is mounted in the pantograph, which ensures precise guidance of the tool according to the given pattern.
  • Threading: During the threading process, the pantograph rotates the tool along the axis of the hole, simultaneously moving it along a designated trajectory. Thanks to the pantograph mechanism, the depth, direction and angle of the thread can be controlled. The advantage of the pantograph is the ability to make threads with very high precision and repeatability.
  • Cooling and lubrication: During threading, it is necessary to use appropriate coolants or lubricants to prevent overheating of the tool and material, which could lead to thread deformation or damage.
  • Quality control: After the threading process is complete, each hole is checked for accuracy and dimensional compliance. In case of deviations, the pantograph must be readjusted and corrections made.

Application of threading

Pantograph tapping is particularly useful in mass production, where high repeatability and precision are required. It is often used in the automotive, aerospace and tool industries, where threading precision is crucial for the quality and durability of components.

Pantographs used for tapping can handle various types of threads, including metric, inch and specialist threads, depending on technological needs.

In summary, pantograph tapping is an advanced, precise process used in many industrial sectors, which ensures high quality and repeatability of workmanship.
