Grinding

Grinding is an advanced machining process that uses abrasive tools to remove excess material from the machined surface. This method allows for high dimensional accuracy, excellent surface quality, and the desired mechanical properties of machined parts. Grinding is widely used in the machine, automotive, and aerospace industries, as well as in the production of precision tools.

What is grinding?

Grinding is a process in which the workpiece material is removed using a rapidly rotating grinding wheel. The grinding wheel, composed of abrasive grains and a binder, acts as a cutting tool, generating micro-cuts on the surface of the workpiece. This process allows for very small dimensional tolerances and low surface roughness.

Advantages of grinding

  • High precision – It allows for very small dimensional tolerances (in the order of micrometers).
  • Surface quality – Grinding allows for low roughness and excellent surface smoothness.
  • Hard material machining – Using the right tools enables machining of hardened steels, sintered carbides or technical ceramics.
  • Versatility – The process is suitable for machining both large surfaces and precise details.
